This is an on-paper comparison, honestly labeled — hands-on testing exists for neither claim set yet, including the O1's, until my unit arrives.
If you're shopping desktop UV printers in mid-2026, you've probably noticed two machines launched practically on top of each other, both asking for a $50 deposit: the xTool O1 Omni, which completed its global launch on July 15, and the HeyGears G1 Series, heading to Kickstarter the same month. Same bed size, same deposit, overlapping pitch — and two completely different bets underneath.
Here's the short answer, then the full breakdown:
- They share the desktop UV core: a 330 × 420 mm bed, raised 3D texture, tumbler printing via rotary, UV DTF, and proprietary auto-maintained ink systems.
- The O1 Omni's second act is every surface: it's the only one of the two with true apparel printing (DTG on its Fabric edition), and the only one that syncs with a laser.
- The G1's second act is the third dimension: the G1X prints full-color 3D objects — miniatures, models, transparent parts — a category the O1 doesn't touch at all.
- The biggest difference isn't a spec — it's status. The O1 is a launched product shipping from around August; the G1 is a Kickstarter campaign with shipping "expected to begin in 2026" and a published disclaimer that specs may change.
Two Machines, Two Different Bets

Get this framing right and the rest of the comparison falls into place: neither machine is a superset of the other.
The O1 Omni is a surface printer that refuses to pick a lane between hard goods and fabric — UV and UV DTF for the rigid world, DTG and DTF for apparel (on the UV + DT Fabric edition only — the edition choice is permanent). The G1 is a surface printer that grows in a different direction entirely: the G1X model builds full-color 3D objects layer by layer — figures, architectural models, transparent parts — straight off the bed with no painting, using a resin station and water-soluble supports. That's not a feature the O1 lacks; it's a different product category bolted onto the same UV core.
So the first question isn't "which is better." It's which second act do you actually need? If the answer is shirts and mixed-material customer orders, only one of these machines does that. If the answer is full-color miniatures, only the other one does. And if you only need the shared UV core, then price, availability, and risk tolerance decide it.
The Spec Sheet, Side by Side

A few rows deserve unpacking, because the headline numbers hide nuance in both directions:
Resolution — G1's edge on paper. The G1 Series claims up to 1440 × 2400 dpi, and the G1X adds light cyan and light magenta channels for a wider color gamut — HeyGears cites over 97% CMYK gamut coverage. The O1 prints at 720 × 1440 dpi. For photographic gradients and skin tones, the G1X's eight-channel system should win on paper. Whether that difference is visible on a wood coaster at arm's length is exactly the kind of thing that needs a real test — which nobody, me included, has done yet.
Texture — messier than the marketing. The O1 specs raised texture up to 7 mm. HeyGears claims the G1 supports up to 10 mm — but their own page recommends 5 mm or less "for optimal print quality and stability." So the honest reading is: O1 = 7 mm rated, G1 = 5 mm recommended with a 10 mm ceiling. If deep relief is your product, don't buy either machine on this row alone until real prints exist.
Speed — read the footnote. HeyGears claims a 3× UV speed boost for the G1X's industrial Epson i3200 printhead. The footnote matters: that's their internal testing against machines running a single XP600-class printhead. The O1's Single UV edition is exactly that class of machine — but the Dual-Head UV edition runs two heads, and xTool rates it the fastest in its own lineup. Head-to-head speed is untested territory.
Alignment — the O1 publishes a number. xTool's Pixel-Scan system (CIS scanning plus line laser) carries a published ±0.2 mm positioning accuracy spec. The G1 uses line-scan imaging for positioning and auto-layout in Blueprint Studio, but HeyGears hasn't published an accuracy figure. As the guy who builds jigs for a living: an unpublished spec isn't a bad spec, but it's an unverifiable one.
Apparel — not the same thing. Both companies say "clothing." Only the O1 does direct-to-garment DTG (Fabric edition), printing into cotton fibers for that soft, breathable result. The G1's apparel path is DTF transfers via an attachment — real and useful, with HeyGears touting a skin-safe, low-allergen ink formula, but it's a film-transfer workflow, not garment printing. Maintenance Philosophies: Protect vs Patrol
Both companies took UV printing's clogging problem seriously, and they landed on genuinely different philosophies. The O1's Smart Cycle 2.0 system is built around protection: white ink stirring plus active circulation through the fluid path, and a Vacation Mode that swaps ink out of the printhead for a moisturizing fluid, rated for a two-week absence and a 1–2 minute wake-up (xTool's figures).
The G1's approach is closer to patrol: printhead heating and low-viscosity ink to resist clogging, white ink agitation against settling, an automatic self-clean after 3 days of inactivity, and automatic nozzle moisturizing during extended standby. That's a real system, not an afterthought — but scheduled self-cleaning typically spends ink to stay ready, and HeyGears hasn't published consumption figures. For a machine you might leave idle for weeks at a time, the documentation gap between the two approaches is currently wide, and it favors the O1.
Ink safety follows the same pattern: xTool publishes certifications (GREENGUARD-certified, non-reprotoxic formulation) alongside built-in HEPA and activated-carbon filtration; HeyGears describes skin-safe, low-allergen, low-volatility formulas and built-in filtration with an airflow duct, but hasn't published third-party certifications for the G1's inks yet. Claims on both sides — paperwork on one.
The Part Nobody Should Skip: Shipping vs Kickstarter

Both machines take a $50 deposit. What that deposit buys is very different.
The O1 Omni completed its launch on July 15, with xTool saying units ship starting as early as August 2026 — through xTool's existing retail, support, and warranty channels. Its specs are final and its three editions are fixed. What remains unknown is real-world reliability, because the machine is brand new — that's what my testing series is for.
The G1 is a pre-production Kickstarter campaign. HeyGears' own disclaimer says images may show prototypes and that specifications, features, and delivery estimates are subject to change before mass production. Shipping is "expected to begin in 2026" with no month committed, and no independent testing of any kind exists yet. The fair context cuts both ways: HeyGears is an eight-year-old company that ships resin printers into dental and audio production — this isn't a garage startup — but a Kickstarter pledge is not a store purchase, and crowdfunding calendars slip far more often than they hold.
My honest translation: if you need a machine producing this fall, the G1 isn't really in that conversation yet, regardless of how its spec sheet reads. If you're planning for 2027 and full-color 3D objects are the dream, waiting for real G1 reviews costs you nothing.
What About Price?
Per my usual policy, I keep exact pricing out of evergreen guides — launch pricing, early-bird windows, and Kickstarter tiers all shift monthly, and both companies are mid-promotion as I write this. Check current O1 Omni pricing on xTool's site (affiliate link) and HeyGears' site for current G1 reservation terms. The evergreen advice stands from my other comparisons: the machine price is the down payment — per-milliliter ink cost multiplied by your product plan is the real number, and the G1's ink pricing is largely unpublished as of this writing, which makes that math impossible to run yet.
The Four-Question Shortcut
- Will you ever print apparel? The O1's UV + DT Fabric edition is the only true garment printer on this page — the G1's apparel path is DTF transfers only.
- Do you want full-color 3D objects — miniatures, models, transparent parts? That's the G1X, exclusively. The O1 doesn't compete here at all.
- Do you need a machine making products this year? The O1 is launched and shipping from ~August; the G1 is a Kickstarter with an uncommitted ship month.
- Do you run a supported xTool laser (P3, F2 Ultra, F2 Ultra UV)? The O1's print-and-cut sync is an ecosystem advantage the G1 doesn't have an answer to.

Watch the HeyGears G1 if full-color 3D objects are the dream and your timeline is flexible — it's attempting something genuinely new, and if it ships as described, it earns its own review on this blog. And if all you need is the shared UV core, my advice is boring and honest: the O1 is buyable today, the G1 is a promise with a good pedigree, and promises don't print tumblers.
